Department of Agricultural Extension Education

The Department of Agricultural Extension has been an integral part of SASRD since its inception in 1978 under else while NEHU, through its academic programme in the discipline of Extension Education at the B.Sc(Ag.) Hons level.

Under Nagaland University the number of faculty increased and the Department started the M.Sc(Ag.) programme in 2008 and Ph.D programme in 2013 respectively. Through these programmes the basic and strategic research in agriculture is being carried out. The research carried out at the PG level has been on socio-economic conditions and livelihood strategies through adoption of improved practices, entrepreneurship studies, microfinance activities through Self Help Groups, women empowerment and extension management studies in the North-East states viz.,Nagaland,Arunachal Pradesh,Tripura,Mizoram,Meghalaya and Manipur.

The Department is actively involved in the National Agricultural Innovation Project(NAIP) and with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency(ATMA) as third-party 'Monitoring and Evacuation Team' in collaboration with the State Dirctorate of Agriculture.

Vision:

  • To train students in effective use of extension teaching methods and develop communication skills for efficient transfer of technology.
  • To provide leadership role in teaching and research in agricultural extension.
  • To build up and consolidate different fields of specialization in extension education.

  • Studies on farmers' adoption and knowledge levels on various aspects of agricultural technology.
  • Studies on management aspects of agricultural practices.
  • Studies on role of Women and SHGs in agriculture.
  • Studies on technological gap among farmers w.r.t. improved farm technologies.
  • Studies on entrepreneurial behaviour of farmers.
