Department of Agronomy

The Department is one of the leading departments in SASRD, Nagaland University, Medizphema Campus having good facilities of oil and plant analysis unit.

Courses Offered: The Department offers Post-Graduate level programmes (M.Sc(Ag.) and Ph.D).

Vision:

  • Establishment of new permanent infrastructure with well furnished classrooms and laboratory for more advance projects in the field of Agronomy.
  • Farm development with assured irrigation facilities and farm harvest handling unit.
  • Infrastructure development of Integrated farming System model based on hill agriculture and other agronomical facilities to improve Teaching, Research and Extension activities in the Department.
  • Setting up of Indigenous Technical Hub(ITKH) with a view to uplift local innovators and also standardize eco-friendly agro-technology.
  • Setting up of Organic Farming Centre(OFC) with the objective of developing and standardizing crop specific organic production technology.
  • To develop and promote package of practices of important crops of the region under rainfed condition and transfer such technologies to farmers' field(Research studies on-going).
  • To organize Farmers' and state level workshop to identify problems and constraints being faced by the farming community of the state and formulate Research/Extension projects on these areas from time to time.

  • Natural resource management for sustaining the productivity and ecological balance.

  • Management strategies for locally available resource based organic farming system.
  • Integration of nutrient management approaches with special consideration on sustainable harnessing of on-farm and off-farm resources.
  • Production technology for enhancing productivity of rice based cropping system.
  • Economic viability of existing/introduced cropping systems under agro-climatic condition of Nagaland.
