Department of Agricultural Engineering

The Department of Agricultural Engineering came into existence along with the establishment of College of Agriculture at Medziphema under NEHU in the year 1978. After separation of Nagaland University from NEHU IN 1994, the Department of Agricultural Engineering has been an integral part of School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development(SASRD),Medziphema.

Since its inception, the Department was responsible for teaching courses in the discipline of Mathematics, Physics and Agricultural Engineering for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. At present the Department offers courses in Agricultural Engineering and Mathematics courses for B.Sc(Ag.) programme. The Department also offers few minor courses and compulsory non-credit courses for M.Sc(Ag.) programme. In addition to this, the Department also runs agricultural Engineering workshop for manufacture of manual implements and practical training to the students. The Department is also engaged in demonstration of agricultural equipment in the villages through RAWE programme.

Thrust Areas:

The Department is to develop package of improved implements for cultivation of important crops of the state. Research related to water management at farmer's field level as well as on watershed basis is other thrust area for the Department for which the Department is making efforts to establish weather station along with lysimeter to produce high quality data related various climatic variables.
