Department of Agricultural Economics
Vision


The growth, development and expansion for the Department of Agricultural Economics are envisaged by two types of vision:
(i) Short Vision:

  • To develop and train the human resources, so that intensive and extensive knowledge can be disseminated throughout the state.
  • To conduct seminars, workshops and trainings on emerging issues related to agriculture and allied fields.
  • To conduct the survey work to generate the data through primary level for data base management.
  • To provide consultancy in the field of agricultural economics and agricultural statistics for meaningful research in the field concern.
(ii) Long Vision:
  • To create the academic excellence center where students can learn through real experiences in the field of agriculture and allied sectors.
  • To upgrade the Department of Agricultural Economics to School of Agri-business Management with related departments viz; Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Finance and Agri-Business Management Departments.
  • To upgrade the Department of Agricultural Economics to School of Agri-business Management with related departments viz; Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Finance and Agri-Business Management Departments.
  • To make co-ordination between the multi-disciplinary approaches in the field of teaching, research, extension and training to conduct the meaningful result.


Highlights of Research activities and Thrust areas:

The department faculty members have supervised 72 numbers of M. Sc. (Ag.) students as Major Supervisor, whereas around 280 students were supervised by the faculty members as a Member of the Advisory Committee for the M. Sc. (Ag.) degree programme of different disciplines at SASRD. Altogether 22 Ph. D. Scholar has registered till date.

The thrust areas of the department are in the field of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Agri-Business Management, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Economics, Agricultural Statistics, Computer Application in Agriculture, etc; so research priority has been given on:

  1. Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Marketing,
  2. Agri-Business Management and Natural Resource Management,
  3. Environmental Economics and Management based programmes,
  4. Cost of cultivation and Computer Application,
  5. Large and small sample theory.
