Department of Horticulture
Extension Activity:
The faculty participates actively as member in Farmers’ Cell in organizing training programmes for farmers and rural youth especially for capacity building and skill development, natural resource management, commercialization in cultivation, post harvest handlings processing and preservation, by effectively disseminating technical ‘know-how’ to various stakeholders.
Publication & Communication:
Departmental faculty members and staffs are responsible for regular publication of Package of Practices, Research findings, Articles, Horticultural News letter, and to meet the requirements of electronic media Radio/TV for transfer of horticulture technology.
Infrastructure:
Sufficient infrastructure facilities have been developed as this is a oldest PG department of the University. Department has maximum farm area with hi-tech infrastructure facility, modern farm facility, well equipped laboratory(Plant & tissue analysis laboratory, PHT laboratory ,Tissue culture laboratory), Class Rooms for PG and Ph D with smart teaching aids facility.
Budget and Resource:
Department received only allotted budget either annual budgetary requirement in the form of grant in aid both under plan and non-plan heads from the University & ICAR.
The Horticulture Society of North East India (HSNEI):
During July 2004, The Horticulture Society of North East India was formally formed with an objective to develop linkage between research and development, education and extension institutions, horticultural producers and marketing agencies to provide affordable services to the users in the relevant field by disseminating suitable technology. The society and the members have been actively involved in imparting training programmes and also published annual “Horticultural Newsletter” for the benefit of Horticulture crop growers of NE region and other stakeholders in relevant field.
