Department of Horticulture


Research Activity:

  • The research in the Department is by and large undertaken by post graduate students under the guidance of PG teachers so as to generate required information and solutions to the prioritized problems in a given area. At the end of particular duration, the suitable findings are analyzed and further subjected to critical validation through multi location trials.
  • Research by the faculty members through projects, M.Sc.(Ag.) and Ph.D students.
  • Coordinated Research Projects, North East Twinning Project (DBT) Livelihood improvement Project (NAIP, ICAR) on specific crops for introducing new crop varieties, cultivation packages, crop protection methods etc., to suit various Agro-climatic conditions, manage biotic and abiotic stresses to increase yield in horticulture crops and value addition.
  • Traditional knowledge and farmers practice/ innovation based research.
  • Research in specialized on biotechnological areas particularly Plant Tissue culture & Organic farming on focused crops.
  • On farm research for validation, adaptation and popularization of new technologies in farmer's field with participatory mode.
  • To develop the information on post harvest handling, storage, processing and product diversification in mandate crop.
  • To establish good nursery for multiplication and supply of planting material of recommended varieties of respective crops.
