Department of Horticulture


Preamble:

The Department of Horticulture was established under North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) during 1978 and in 1986, the department started post graduate programme with an intake of 5 (five) students. Presently, the department has four disciplines, namely, Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Floriculture and Landscaping and Plantation, Spices, Medicinal and Aromatic (PSMA). The intake capacity is 15 (fifteen) in M Sc(Ag) Horticulture programme in each academic year and Ph D programme in the various disciplines under course credit system has started since 2010 as per ICAR academic guidelines.


Mission:

To enhance the growth of horticulture sector by providing leadership in creative teaching, strategic research and effective extension education services in horticulture and allied sciences through innovations and embracing emerging paradigms and concepts in promoting inter disciplinary and multi-dimensional research for development.


Vision:

This department has a vision to develop excellence in the field of Horticulture for research and development. The departments also envisages up gradation to a School for empowering equitable knowledge and technology in all fields of horticulture especially for the hilly ecosystem.


Departmental Library:

The Department has setup a library of books and scientific journals related to horticulture and allied sciences with more than 100 text & Reference books and Horticultural journals and Reports.
